KeshetUK Sessions at Limmud Festival 2023

Just a few days to wait until Limmud Festival, which is Friday 22nd – Wednesday 27th December 2023.

Below are the list of sessions that we are running from KeshetUK. Please do check out the Limmud programme for the wider list of LGBT+ related sessions!

 Sunday 24 December

• Having kinder conversations: A KeshetUK mini-session for parents, carers and family members of Jewish LGBT+ people, 16.40-17.30, Orange 10

Family members of LGBT+ people often ask KeshetUK how they can create safer spaces for LGBT+ people. They feel that there is a gap in their knowledge or they're afraid to say the wrong thing and hurt someone they care about. This educational session aims to close that gap and support kinder conversations. This session is for adult family members/carers only.

• LGBT+ social space, 21.20-22.10, Yellow 21

The purpose here is to create a safer space at Limmud where LGBT+ Jews (including but not limited to lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, asexual, intersex, questioning and more) can come and meet each other to socialise. This will be a fun space to hang out and play games
 
Monday 25 December

• An introduction to trans inclusion, 10.00-10.50, Red 3

Many people want to begin making the spaces they are in more inclusive of transgender people, but are unsure how to do so, and worry about ‘getting it wrong’. In this training session, we will provide a non-judgemental space for people to ask questions, learn about trans identities, and how to best support trans people.

• LGBT+ and Jewish? A discussion around what an inclusive Jewish community looks like for you, 12.20-13.10, Orange 11

This session is for LGBT+ people (including: lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, asexual, intersex and more) to join us in discussing your hopes and concerns for our community. Whether you’re from the UK or elsewhere, KeshetUK wants to hear your voice about what you need to ensure you and your family are included in Jewish spaces

Tuesday 26 December

• What's your story? A storytelling workshop for LGBT+ people and allies, 17.50-18.40, Red 5

​A session for LGBT+ Jews of all ages and those who support the LGBT+ community to learn how to tell their stories. We guide you through the process of storytelling in an effectual way, with techniques for maximum impact! Sharing a meaningful conversation? Coming out? Talking about your allyship? We all have a story to tell and we’d love to hear yours.


The two sessions we are running at Young Teel Limmud are:
Monday 25 December

• The Contributions of Jewish LGBT+ People (Teen Limmud Y7, age 11-12) , 3.30-4.20, YTL Zone

Are there any famous Jewish LGBT+ people other than actors and musicians?  How many famous Jewish LGBT+ people can you name?  And who are the trailblazers who brought lasting positive change for the LGBT+ community?  In this session you’ll find out about some of the many contributions to society made by Jewish LGBT+ people - including a footballer!  
 

• Homophobic/Biphobic/Transphobic Language, and What We Can Do About It (Teen Limmud Y8 and Y9, age 12-14) , 11.10-12.00, YTL Zone

Have you ever seen hurtful language used towards LGBT+ people and wondered what you could do?  How often does it happen?  Does it have serious consequences?  In this session we’ll examine how homophobic, biphobic and transphobic language causes hurt; and then use real-life scenarios to discuss better language options.
