Ending so-called 'Conversion Therapy'

Picture
UPDATE: The Government has extended respond deadline to Friday 4 February 2022.

The Government has put out a consultation on how it should ban 'conversion therapy' and we have collected together guidance on how to respond to that consultation. The consultation is now open and closes on Friday 4 February (previously the deadline was
Friday 10 December at 11:45pm.)

So-called 'conversion therapy' refers to any practice which tries to change, alter, suppress, or 'cure' an LGBT+ person’s orientation or gender identity. This kind of abuse can take a wide range of forms, including verbal, psychological, physical, and sexual abuse.

At KeshetUK we believe that it is damaging, dangerous and harmful and we agree with the Government in their goal to end so-called 'conversion therapy'.
We know these practices have caused great harm to Jewish LGBT+ people. At KeshetUK we are keen to help people learn more about what so-called 'conversion therapy' is and the experiences of those who have been subjected to this damaging practice.

Whether you respond as an individual, or as an organisation, every response to the consultation will help ensure the most effective ban to protect LGBT+ people from harm.

Please click below for guidance on how you might like to respond; to read some key statistics and learn about the experiences of those who've been through so-called 'conversion therapy'; or if you need support having been through or going through these practices yourself.

With kind thanks to our team, volunteers, and your donations, we can create a world where no one is forced to choose between their LGBT+ and Jewish identity.
