KeshetUK Sessions at Limmud Festival 2024

Just a few days to wait until Limmud Festival, which is Friday 20th – Wednesday 25th December 2024.

Below are the list of sessions that we are running from KeshetUK. Please do check out the Limmud programme for the wider list of LGBT+ related sessions!

 Sunday 22 December
  • Raising an LGBT+ Child in an Uncertain World, 11:35-12:30, Orange 10
Whether your child (or grandchild) is 9 or 49, we all want the best for our kids. But family members often tell us that they worry for their LGBT+ child(ren). This session aims to provide reassurance and emphasise the positive things everyone can do for an LGBT+ child they love. We'll tell some stories and share some resources. Questions welcome.

  • An Introduction to Trans Inclusion, 18:35-19:30, Red 2
Many people want to begin making the spaces they are in more inclusive of transgender people, but are unsure how to do so, and worry about ‘getting it wrong’. In this training session, we will provide a non-judgmental space for people to ask questions, learn about trans identities, and how to best support trans people.

  • LGBT+ Social Space, 20:55-21:50, Orange 14
All LGBT+ Jews are warmly invited to join us at our LGBT+ social space at Limmud. This is a safe space where LGBT+ Jews (including but not limited to lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, asexual, intersex, questioning and more) can come and meet each other. This will be a relaxed space to hang out and socialise, with board games available. 
 
Monday 23 December
  • A Decade of KeshetUK, the Past, Present and Future of Jewish LGBT+ Inclusion​, 14:00-14:55, Orange 14
It’s ten years since KeshetUK came into being – ten years of working patiently and deeply with our Jewish community to ensure LGBT+ Jews and their families are included. What has changed since 2014? What hasn’t? What might the next ten years bring? Our panel - and you from the floor! - will discuss

  • Gesher, JWA, KeshetUK: Supporting School Children with Invisible Challenges​, 15:05-16:00, Red 4
Come and hear how these organisations support pupils in Jewish schools whose needs are not always visible, helping to create more inclusive classrooms and communities. We’ll outline some of the challenges and barriers we face in our work, share an overview of what we do with pupils, and discuss how our work supports the Jewish community.

Tuesday 24 December
  • Transgender Inclusion and Wellbeing with KeshetUK, 10:25-11:20, Red 8
Join LGBT+ Jewish charity, KeshetUK, volunteers and staff for a look into transgender inclusion and wellbeing within the Jewish community. How are transgender people within the community accepted and is there more that we could be doing?

Monday 25 December
  • The Contributions of Jewish LGBT+ People (Teen Limmud Y7, age 11-12) , 3.30-4.20, YTL Zone
Are there any famous Jewish LGBT+ people other than actors and musicians?  How many famous Jewish LGBT+ people can you name?  And who are the trailblazers who brought lasting positive change for the LGBT+ community?  In this session you’ll find out about some of the many contributions to society made by Jewish LGBT+ people - including a footballer!  
 
  • Homophobic/Biphobic/Transphobic Language, and What We Can Do About It (Teen Limmud Y8 and Y9, age 12-14) , 11.10-12.00, YTL Zone
Have you ever seen hurtful language used towards LGBT+ people and wondered what you could do?  How often does it happen?  Does it have serious consequences?  In this session we’ll examine how homophobic, biphobic and transphobic language causes hurt; and then use real-life scenarios to discuss better language options.
